Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes. The lake was named after Queen Victoria by the explorer John Hanning Speke, the first Briton to document it. Speke accomplished this in 1858, while on an expedition with Richard Francis Burton to locate the source of the Nile River.

Lake Victoria is shared between the 3 East African countries that is Uganda,Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda takes up the biggest percentage of the waters including the source of the Nile which is found in Jinja district in eastern Uganda.

Lake Victoria has a surface area of approximately 68,800 square kilometres and its Africa’s largest lake by area, and also the world’s largest tropical lake, the world’s second largest fresh water lake by surface area, after Lake Superior in North America. In terms of volume, Lake Victoria is the world’s ninth largest continental lake, containing about 2,750 cubic kilometres of water. There is a variety of activities that can be carried out on Lake Victoria.
